Abstract

In order to search for an effective way to help the knowledge-and-technology-intensive firms in the private sector of the Guangdong Province of China to solve the problem of being lack of competitiveness in innovation and creativity, and based on the previous literature, a well-established learning organization can increase and maintain the competitiveness of the above two areas while having positive effects on employees’ organizational performance and job satisfaction etc. which these factors are all beneficial to the development of the organizations. Given the circumstance that there are no related studies about the effect of the perception of learning organization towards employees’ job satisfaction in these firms before. As a result, this empirical study aims to investigate the employees’ perception of LO towards their extrinsic, intrinsic and general job satisfaction due to being lack of relevant research before.

Based on the perspective of positivist philosophy, this empirical study will be conducted using the quantitative method. 226 effective respondents answered a 48-item questionnaire including demographical information and two combined questionnaire—Dimensions of Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ) and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). After the data analysis, the results indicated that three dimensions of the learning organization (Team Learning, Empowerment and Strategic Leadership) were significantly associated with both extrinsic and intrinsic job satisfaction while Team Learning and Strategic Leadership can positively predict the general job satisfaction. This means that a good environment that can encourage teams or groups to collaborate, empowering employees to participate in creating a shared vision and having a good leader who supports his/her employees to learn can dramatically make employees feel satisfied and content with their job both externally and internally.

To summarize, this can provide both theoretical and practical implications for HR practitioners in these firms to take the concept of learning organization more seriously because of the positive result the data has revealed. The future study should deepen the research including some qualitative method such as interviewing the managers or employees in other private sector industry in Guangdong Province in order to enrich the literature and fill the academic gap.
