With the rapid growth of GDP in recent years, China's energy and resource consumption have increased dramatically at the same time, the degree of damage to the environment is becoming increasingly serious, which is contrary to the concept of sustainable development. In this background that economic development and ecological environment are not harmonious, sustainable finance is getting more and more attention, it stressed that the environmental and ecological indicators should take into account to the financial sustainable development system. Financial institutions, as the hub of capital financing, play an important role in sustainable development and ought to be better responsible for social responsibility.

This dissertation mainly studies the current status of sustainable development of Chinese financial institutions under the background of sustainable finance. The dissertation uses content analysis to study the 20 representative Chinese financial institutions’ corporate social responsibility reports, through the analysis, it is found that the existence of environmental risk has seriously hindered the sustainable development of financial institutions, the green finance investment can support business opportunities for financial institutions, so the implementation of sustainable finance can contribute to the sustainable development of financial institutions. Then, from the perspective of sustainable finance to analyse the sustainability activities of Chinese financial institutions, and found that there are many problems. Finally, combined with the characteristics of China's financial enterprises and the results of content analysis, gave some countermeasures to financial institutions to achieve sustainable development. Financial institutions should integrate the interests of stakeholders into the development of the institutions, and get the support of the stakeholders, and promote the enterprise, social and natural virtuous circle and harmonious development.
