Abstract

Additive manufacturing and 3D printing technology has been applied aggressively recently and considered as the revolutionary and disruptive manufacturing methods (Anton, Silberglitt & Schneider, 2001; Berman, 2012; Rifkin, 2012; Prince, 2014). Researchers manufacture and the public are full of anticipation towards this technology. Among the predictions of potentiality and the claims of development progress, much hypes and over expectations are exists (Campbell et al, 2012; Petrick & Simpson2013; Wohlers & Caffrey,2013).

This paper is aimed to investigate the real current status of AM&3DP applications. Among the wide applications in different industries, applications and technology development in medical, aerospace and automotive are going to be focused on. Since they are the main battleground of AM&3DP so far and in the near future (Lux Research,2013). After representing the up to date development progress of AM&3DP development, some hypes and exaggerations will be analyzed as well as the future trend of development. Main challenges are going to be illustrated at the end to help people understand the roundedness of technology development.
