Abstract

Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) is considered to be one of nature’s most important and versatile minerals in the world. Limestone powder is used across many sectors in the UK for construction, industrial manufacturing and life science purposes. Tarmac’s lime and powders business unit presently supply the Trucal and Trucarb range of limestone powders to the construction, glass and agricultural sectors.

This project was undertaken to explore potential new market opportunities and or constraints that could impact Tarmac’s market share and profitability within the UK calcium carbonate industry. The project also forms part of Tarmac’s ‘accelerate’ growth initiative for 2015 and 2016, where the company aims to identify a number of business areas to explore potential opportunities for growth.
