Abstract

Purpose: This dissertation reviews the agile project management (APM) related literatures to identify its academic current scenarios. Furthermore, this dissertation also discovers the future research directions of agile project management, especially its application in non-software related industries.

Methodology: The literature was planned to be collected through selecting from the journals have 2 to 4* rating in the Association of Business School’s Academic Journal Guide 2015. The applied analysis methods are content and citation analysis.

Findings: APM, an intriguing topic for researchers, is still developing. However, majority literature concentrates on the study of agile software projects. Furthermore, some topics that are not discussed in the selected literature can catch future interests, such as contracting for agile projects, APM maturity, APM vs. rapid development, APM application in the public sector. Moreover, the deficient areas of the APM study of non-software related industries, as well as some controversial topics in the software industry, are identified.

Value: Since there is no literature does a systemic literature review to summarise the overview of current academic researches of APM, this dissertation contributes to the research gap and assists the understanding of APM.
