Abstract

The recent years have seen a great boom in the global wealth management industry. The emergence of the private banking and wealth management segments in banking in the region of Asia, such as Pakistan, China and India since the late 90s, has attained huge proportions and holds a lot of promise for banks and financial institutions today. Banks from all around the world has gradually moved from their aggressive retail banking focus to a higher level adopting wealth management practices. Wealth management industry is relatively new in the Pakistani financial markets. Wealthy people of Pakistan have realized that it is high time they require professional support in managing their wealth. They have started to feel the need for professional advice in their investment decisions. Wealth management can be considered as a financial package offered to investors in the form of managing client's investments, tax and estate planning and risk management. Wealth management is a comprehensive study, where wealth managers try analyzing clients' needs, understanding their risk - return preferences, offering them suitable investment products. My research intends to cover the wealth management practices of Pakistan. The research would be studying three major wealth management models being used by MCB Bank, Arif Habib Investment Bank and ABN Amro Bank. The research would try and make a comparison and a critical analysis between 'the wealth management practices adopted in Pakistan' and 'the wealth management practices adopted in developed countries of the world'.
