Veganism and its Contribution to a Sustainable Future.

Abstract
The deteriorating fate of the environment appears in the form of climate change, resource depletion, air, and water pollution. Overconsumption is a contributor to these environmental issues since the increase in the production of food causes greenhouse gas emissions and depletion of natural resources. The need for change is empirical and a vegan lifestyle can be a possible solution to accomplish sustainability.
A gap in the literature concerning “veganism” and “sustainability” was observed, which helped to formulate the research question: Does veganism contribute to a sustainable future?
This dissertation helps identify the need for sustainability, its application, and the demographic, which resorts to it. It focuses on one such sustainable practice; veganism and deciphers the different motivations, limitations, and needs which vegans encounter. This research also involves an in-depth description of the sustainable practices adhered by the participants, followed by its potential impact on the sustenance of the environment.
The findings of sustainable practices were used to expand on and acknowledge the vegan culture. Firstly, the selfless motive, which promoted environmental and animal welfare, served as an important factor within a vegan lifestyle. Secondly, the lack of knowledge concerning nutritional limitation in a vegan diet was observed, and lastly, the three needs for veganism corresponded with the three pillars of sustainability, which favored social, economic, and environmental development.
This thesis aims to bring value to multiple members of society; farmers, producers, and consumers who would want to endorse a vegan lifestyle, by presenting its value as a sustainable practice.
