Abstract

Commercial banks may have loan concentration when lending because it is a very common phenomenon in the process of economic development. To some extent, appropriate loan concentration has a positive impact on economic development, but excessive loan concentration will have adverse effects on the national economy, the operating efficiency and risk control of commercial banks. This paper selects some relevant data of 10 representative commercial banks from 2011 to 2018 to study the impact of loan concentration on the risk and income of Chinese commercial banks by quantitative analysis. This article selects relevant data from 10 representative commercial banks from 2011 to 2018 and studies the impact of loan concentration on risks and returns.

The purpose of this research is to explore the relationship between loan concentration and bank risks and returns. Then, these banks are divided into three types: state-owned commercial banks, joint-stock commercial banks and city commercial banks. Different types of banks are analyzed in different ways. This study finds that excessive loan concentration will reduce the interests of banks and increase the risk. The difference is that for large banks, the increase of loan concentration reduces the bank's rate of return and improves the risk index. For small banks, the increase of loan concentration enhances the income and risks of banks. In addition, the paper also summarizes the connotation of loan concentration, its influencing factors and the causes of risk, and puts forward some suggestions on how to strengthen the risk management of loan concentration for some banks.
