Abstract

This research study was conducted to find out the comparison between the performance appraisal and performance management system in Indian textile industry. The objectives of the study was to find out the various appraisal systems, training, reward & incentive schemes and career development programs undertaken by the various textile companies. Moreover, the research also focus on to find out the relationship between the supervisor and their subordinates; as the textile industry which is labour intense; hence the relationship is very critical for the organisational success. Currently, the most of the textile companies are following the traditional performance appraisal method such as using checklist in order to evaluate their workers performance.

In order to conduct the research, the researcher have used qualitative methodology; and conducted the fifteen interviews of senior Textile managers in “Tamil Nadu” which is also known as textile hub of India. The data was analysed by the thematic method and by which the various themes were generated that answers the research questions and objectives. Lastly, after analysing the data in-depth, the researcher has suggested some valuable recommendations that could be used by the various textile managers in order to meet the organisations success. Moreover, these recommendations would help the organisations to align the individual goal of an employee with the organisational goal. Lastly, it could be stated that the right implementation of the performance management system (PMS) in textile industry would be very beneficial for the employee and for overall growth of the organisation. Hence, the proper implementation and utilization of the performance management system (PMS) in Indian textile industry could solve many practical work related problems faced by the managers; such as poor training, communication and retention of the workers in long run.
