Abstract

Abstract

Dividend payout policy is one of the most popular topics for researchers in the financial area. It is also one of the most crucial decisions should be made by the management team in corporate finance. This paper investigates the determinants of dividend payout level of 50 non-financial firms listed in London Stock Exchange (LSE) during the period of 2005 to 2011. Moreover, the relationship between independent variables and the dividend payout ratio as dependent variable is analyzed through correlation analysis and Panel Data with regression Models. These models are obtained from selected firms over 7 years and seven null hypotheses were examined. The findings showed dividend payout level is positively and significantly related to firms’ profitability, size and liquidity. On the other hand, the dependent variable associates with potential growth ability, business risk and leverage ratio negatively. Finally, the paper confirmed the impacts of financial crisis on dividend payout ratio. To conclude, null the hypotheses about fixed asset ratio and investment opportunities have been rejected because the results of the paper are not match them. On the other hand, the rest of hypotheses are accepted due to the results of this study in line with them.
