Abstract

Gold has been defined as one of the most precious metals. One of the reasons why gold is so valuable all over the world is that it has such a unique history. Discovered in ancient times, it was first used as personal ornamentation, then it was used for monetary transactions, and later gold was used as a commodity as well as for the purposes of investment. The aim of this research is to examine why gold should be invested in, by firstly investigating the relationship between the price of the precious metal and the factors that are considered to have fundamental effect on the price of gold. The paper will then illustrate various methods of investing in gold, and the derivative contracts that can be used in gold investment. A time series model will also be performed, in order to statically understand the relationship between gold price and these factors.
