Abstract

Due to the dynamic fluctuation of global market and customer demands, manufacturing firms are facing difficulties in rapidly responding to market changes. Many firms are under significant pressure to produce low cost, high quality products that can compete in the world marketplace. It might be useful if the process plan could be dynamically modified to consider the current state in the manufacturing shop floor. Thus, the concept of integration of process planning and scheduling function has been established so as to help the firms to handle an unstable market.

This dissertation is prepared to investigate the dynamic process planning according to the integration of process planning and scheduling by the use of computer simulation. By using Arena software, the models have been developed to replicate the actual manufacturing system. They are presented either in static or dynamic manner. To start the experiment, a set of machines and jobs along with processing times are required from the actual data of Thailand based company. To monitor the manufacturing performance in dynamic process plan, the relationship of alternative machines has been applied. The research mainly observes the relationship between numbers of product being produced, production time, waiting time, number of item waiting and also instantaneous use of machines in the job shop condition.
