Abstract

The practice of Data Mining is widely used in today's information age where data is abundant. Data Mining concepts are applied in many facets of everyday activities in business. The issue of supplier selection has become a crucial decision making problem in every company. Data Mining can become a very useful tool in giving decision makers an easier task when faced with supplier selection problem. This dissertation attempts to show as such by using a popular software package Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

Literature research on Data Mining and supplier selection concepts and techniques will form the base for the development of the project. A scenario depicting a real situation where a fictional automotive manufacturer is trying to use Data Mining in supplier selection will provide the backdrop. Two Data Mining algorithms will be applied to the situation with the results the source for comparative analysis. The resulting findings will lead the way towards a conclusion regarding the applicability of the algorithms with some future research possibilities.
