AbstractSmall and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are one of the important sectors of the economy and are a source of employment for many people in developed and developing countries. However, constraints in SMEs with weakening financial positions and a deteriorating macroeconomic environment raised significant concerns about access to financing declining the expected availability of funds. The study aims to investigate the impact of access to finance on the viability of small and medium-sized enterprises in Malaysia during the Covid-19 pandemic. The present study focused on purposive sampling using quantitative research and collected primary data from Malaysian SMEs, thus targeting 387 Malaysian SMEs owners. Correlation and regression analysis was employed to test the proposed hypothesis. The study findings revealed a strong correlation between access to finance on the viability of SMEs and Covid-19 as a moderating factor that affected the viability of SMEs. The study proposed significant implications for the research and policymakers to understand the implications of the crisis and build a resilience response strategy to cope with similar future crisis. The recommendations impeding from these findings will help SMEs to prepare themselves for any potential future crisis leading to disruption of their operations. Secondly, the findings of these studies pose significant practical implications for regulatory bodies like BNM to understand the implication of their monetary actions on economic development. Moreover, future research is recommended for a comparative study of various SME sectors.
