Abstract

With China’s rapid development of industrialization and modernization, environmental risk management in Chinese enterprises becomes increasingly significant for its business operation, reputation as well as international competitiveness. Comparing to enterprise environmental risk management in developed countries and regions, Chinese enterprises generally situated at the primary stage of development of environmental risk management. This paper is aiming to discover the actuality of enterprise environmental risk management in China and expecting to provide feasible suggestions for enterprise directors and policy makers.

Literature review approach, case study approach and archival-based approach been applied to conduct this study. general situation of national environment and extant literature about China’s enterprise environmental risk management been reviewed as well as the application of GSCM in Europe and the United States. In the analysis section, the popularization of implementation of environmental policy in enterprise throughout different provinces in China been studied as typical cases, and the coordination and cooperation of executing environmental regulations and laws between national and local government been observed through the published official documents.

Through the discussion, instant point of improving enterprise environmental risk management in China is establishing complete system of environmental risk laws and regulations especially Chinese edition of ‘CERCLA’, creating comprehensive environmental risk standard and guidance mechanism as well. Implementing them in enterprise’s daily operation with reasonable supervision. In addition, developing GSCM for preventing chronic enterprise environmental risk management. This paper provided available suggestions for policymaking about enterprise environmental risk management and a new angle of research that integrating GSCM in traditional enterprise environmental risk management for managing chronic and long-term environmental risks.
