AbstractSince financial crisis and Brexit caused the volatility in the housing sectors, the corporate and risk oversight at board level has been highlighted. This study investigates the relationship between the corporate governance and risk management, and firm performance in real estate sectors. Using the total samples of 198 UK and US real estate firms in 2015, the results suggested that the proportion of independent directors and the meetings of the boards are both significantly negatively associated with firm performance. Conversely, the board size significantly affects only for the firms in US with the same direction. This indicates that an increase in each board characteristic might not be beneficial for property firm performance.
