AbstractPharmaceutical industry is working towards developing new tools that would help increase the efficiency of drug development while reducing the time and expenditure involved in research & development (R&D) and clinical trials. The lack of new blockbuster drugs and short patent periods is one of the key reasons the pharmaceutical industry is trying to reduce costs. Clinical trials absorb the major chunk of investment in the drug discovery and development process. One of the reasons most of the pharmaceutical companies are exploring the available opportunities to use Information Technology services is to improve the efficiency by gaining faster response while reducing the time and cost involved in clinical trials.
