Abstract

This study focuses on finding the relationship of stress with job satisfaction and commitment of employees in leather footwear industry of Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, leather footwear has become an important sector that contributes significantly to the country’s economy and lot of jobs have been created in recent years where numerous employees are working. There are various psychosocial job factors which are potential sources of stress for employees which can reduce their job satisfaction, motivation and commitment. Data has been collected through questionnaire from sample of 274 respondents and result has been provided. Quantitative analyses of data reveal that various dimensions of work-related stress are negatively related with both job satisfaction and organizational commitment of employees. Employees scored highly on job security, resources and communication and work-life balance which indicate that these are important sources of stress at workplace. Job security and overload were found to have significantly negative impact among all the stressors. Based on the findings, the implications and limitations of the study have been discussed and some recommendations have been provided so that employers can understand effects of stress and formulate strategies for improving employee motivation and overall wellbeing.
