Abstract

Abstract

The study aims to discover the defining attributes, possible antecedents and possible consequences of the concept “self harm and adolescent”. The importance of this is highlighted by the empirical referents, which clearly show the existence of the concept and the need for further research and information on the concept. This is done by critically analysing twenty-three articles, all based on adolescent self harm in a western setting. The defining attributes depression; deliberate, repetition and distress are identified through the analysis of the included articles. The consequences and antecedents have also clearly been shown in chapters 5 and 6. As a result information has been created to be used within healthcare settings, especially for nursing staff. This information is especially aimed at Accident and emergency services and also Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services.
