Abstract

In the last two decades, more and more nursing homes have been established in the western counties. Then, a number of issues related to managerial effectiveness within nursing home have been conducted by scholars and researchers. As far as the author have a part-time job in a private nursing home, in addition, he has such genuine interest in the behavior of middle level managers within organizations that how they could manage the lower level workers successfully and effectively.

The purpose of this study is to gain a clear understanding in the theoretical foundation of managerial effectiveness through the successful management of subordinates, based on which to provide a comparison of such effectiveness in managing people amongst three unit managers while they are in the head nurse position at different units within the context of a private nursing home.

Semi-structure interviews were conducted with three unit managers within target nursing home in the Nottingham. And, a total of 37 employees from three units within this nursing home carried out questionnaires to response questions related to their perspective of daily managerial practices under the management of three managers.

Findings suggest that achieving managerial effectiveness would be throughout appropriate managerial style that in order to provide the job satisfaction and raise the self-motivation and so on. Therefore, all these factors would be significant for improvement of organization performance, which more effective to gain better work outcomes.
