Abstract

This dissertation describes a ten week internship at Fluorocarbon. There were two main goals in the project set for the internship. First of all, design and implement a system to monitor the scrap levels in all stages of production. Second, using these data, come up with ways to reduce the scrap. A generic framework should be developed that can be rolled.

After a few weeks of collecting and analyzing data, three projects were put in place. The first project allowed the planning department to continuously monitor scrap. The second project reduced the scrap in one cell by over 50%. The third project was all about making the setup of one cell shorter and more predictable. Overall, all the goals that were set in the project proposal were met.
