Abstract

Assesses the Qur’ān’s legal culture, as epitomized by its ritual and legal observances, as well as by its scriptural legal hermeneutics, in comparison with Late Antique culture in general. The Qur’ān is presented as sharing a legal culture especially with practices associated with the Didascalia Apostolorum. Literary "influence" is dismissed, the study argues for a stable and widespread legal culture throughout Late Antiquity.
