AbstractAcanthamoeba castellanii is an amoeboid protozoan which causes opportunistic infections, including granulomatous encephalitis in immune-compromised patients. Haematogenous dissemination follows initial infection and the pathogen exhibits an ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
